
Russia’s 2nd Project 11711 LST ‘Petr Morgunov’ Started Sea Trials

The Pella Shipyard in St. Petersburg in northwest Russia has completed the construction of the Project 22800 missile corvette Odintsovo (NATO reporting name: Karakurt-class), the Defense Ministry’s press office said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin opened a series of meetings on military buildup and called to increase Navy capabilities. He said specific attention should be paid to warships and submarines armed with hypersonic Tsirkon missiles in order to preserve strategic stability.

New trials of the advanced Tsirkon hypersonic antiship missile will take place at a Russian Northern Fleet sea range before the yearend, a source in uniformed agencies of the Northwestern Federal District told TASS.

The engineering brigade of the Northern fleet will be formed in 2020, Navy sources said. It will be armed for a broad range of missions ranging from construction and restoration of infrastructure facilities to assault on reinforced positions. The brigade will comprise assault groups equipped with all-terrain vehicles, swamp buggies, bulldozers and tracklayers. The formation will also have sniffer dogs.

Yantar Shipyard floated the Voevoda lead rescue vessel of project 23700, the enterprise said.

The Pacific Fleet’s Project 1155M frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov currently being upgraded has left the dry dock of the Dalzavod Shipyard in Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East and gone to the outfitting pier, the Defense Ministry’s press office said.

The Russian Defense Ministry plans to order the modernization of an additional shipment of three project 1234 small missile ships for the Russian Pacific Fleet.

Russian submarines will get armored shelters equipped with water, electricity, and steam supplies. They are designed for Borey-class SSBN of project 955 and Yasen-class SSGN of project 885, as well as Lada-class diesel-electric submarines of projects 636 and 677. Each shelter will defend the submarine from bombs and missiles and even a nuclear strike, the Izvestia daily writes.
